Theresa Osterbur Aboard Ship

Theresa Osterbur remembers life aboard ship on her way to America. Tjar and Gretgen Habben, Theresa's parents,  decided to leave Germany because of oppressive post-war inflation. In 1929, they set sail with their children aboard the SS Berlin. Turning twelve years old at sea, Theresa remembers the fun she had with her brother, and the misery her mother endured. Nine days later, the Habben family was greeted by the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, and soon made a new home near Royal, Illinois.
