Ruby J. McEwen Weathersby

Ruby J. McEwen Weathersby was born in rural Mississippi (Pike County) in August, 1936.

She married Walter B. Weathersby in May, 1956. Together, they raised seven children: Vanessa, Jennifer, Irene, Walter K., Daniel W., Derrick, and Deidre.

Ruby and her husband have traveled the world, mainly while he was in the military. They finally settled in Rantoul, Illinois in 1981. There, Ruby became involved with the Girl Scouts. Her involvement ranged from leader to co-service unit manager. She also served on the Board of the Northern Champaign County Community Service Center for nine years and on the Fire and Police Commission for six years.

She has served on the Board of Education of the Rantoul City Schools, and as a trustee on the Board a Greater New Light Baptist Church. She has been a member of the Business and Professional Woman for over 18 years, serving as President and District Director. She is committed to the betterment of life for everyone.

In 2021, Ruby’s husband, Walter, passed away. He was survived by Ruby, all seven of their children, a host of grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
