Hattie Marion

Hattie Marion was born on November 16, 1929 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Abron and Valeria Miller. She resided in Holly Springs until she was 16. Then, she lived in Memphis, Tennessee for a short time.

Hattie returned to Mississippi where she worked on the family farm and attended rural schools. She married Robert Marion in 1946 after his return from World War I. After their marriage, they both worked on the family farm until 1948 and then moved to Champaign, Illinois with their oldest child, Barnan. In Champaign, they raised five children: Barnan, Barnett, Carla, Barbara, and Floyd, all of whom attended Champaign Public Schools.

Hattie has always been very civic and community minded. She was presently a member of the NCNW and the Champaign County Home Extension Organization.

Hattie was a firm believer in lifelong learning and is presently taking computer classes where she enhanced her computer skills. Hattie was also a very creative individual, and had many talents and skills, such as her love of cooking, canning, quilting, gardening, entertaining and collecting antiques.
